My time in Sri Lanka
So… My first four weeks has passed.
I’ve been two weeks in Ambalangoda, where I stayed at Wallama Villa and two weeks in Mirissa, where I stayed at Mirissa Seastar. Today I am at Reef Bungalow hotel, somewhere between Negombo and Colombo. My plane for Kerala leaves early tomorrow morning.
These weeks have been amazing, fun, I’ve learned so much about the country, it’s government, culture and nature. It is truly a magical country that has everything. Since I’ve been working, I haven’t had much time for excursion, so I will come back here next year to see more of the north, the nature reserves and everything there is to see and experience.
The people here are so friendly, welcoming and helpful and love to tell you more about everything in their country.
Wallama Villa was a guesthouse, right at the beach in Ambalangoda, run by a family; Amila and Chandi and their two children. The spot was amazing and I often had all the beach to myself in the mornings. The room had everything I needed, the wifi was excellent and Chandi helped me with absolutely everything, from excursions, mosquito bites, laundry and stories about Sri Lanka. So I could both enjoy the beach and work. Ambalangoda didn’t have many tourists, so it was rather nice and quite. Except for som festival drums in the middle of the night now and then 😉 I met a new friend and we found som nice restaurants: Jona place, Chill Pill and La Kurumba, where Chill Pill became our favorite. But the beach at La Kurumba was totally amazing and we had a nice and dark walk home on the beach from there.
In Mirissa there were more tourists, more shops, more restaurants. I totally loved my hotel room where I had a view over Coconut Tree Hill, with a constant stream of tourists with cameras, the sea with all the fishermen in their small boats and the beach. And the sunsets! Magical! The staff at the hotel were amazing and helped me with everything (like a flooded hotel room after a monsoon rain one night), the food was amazing too and you could easily walk or take a tuktuk to the shops, for ayurvedic massage, pedicure, ATM’s and restaurants in Mirissa.
If your are going to any of these places, send me a message and maybe I can help you with advice. 🙂
Today I woke up with a poolview in front of the ocean at Reef Bungalow hotel, had breakfast in my room (amazing btw!), and are now going to wash all my clothes in a washing machine for the first time in like three weeks. And I’m going to work, in spite of power failure all day. Happy to have charged my computer, my phone and my magsafe battery and that I have my eSim with mobile internet.
So alla in all Sri Lanka is amazing, marvellous, fantastic and I-m going to be back for sure.
(And YES! I’ve seen a blue whale! Live! It was totally amazing!)
